| | Europe-Canada Workshop on Alzheimer’s Research | | | Europe-Canada Funders Meeting Paris, France, July 7, 2009
Following the Europe-Canada Workshop on Alzheimer’s Research held in Prague, Czech Republic, March 15-16, 2009 (see report and presentations below), the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Fonds de recherche en santé du Québev (FRSQ) joined ERA-Net Neuron, a trans-national European initiative to advance collaboration between research funding agencies in the area of disease-related neurosciences. In discussion with ERA-Net Neuron and other national funding agencies, CIHR proposed the development of a joint initiative focused on the thematic areas identified at the Prague workshop: risk factor identification, early diagnosis and early therapeutic intervention/prevention in treating Alzheimer’s Disease.
To advance these discussions, CIHR organized a funders’ meeting in cooperation with European Research Area-Canada initiative (ERA-Can) in Paris on July 7, 2009. The aim of the meeting was to explore possible mechanisms for such an initiative and to identify a plan of action and timeline. The meeting included an overview of the current state of research and opportunities for scientific collaboration focusing on the proposed program areas. Please find bellow:

The workshop brought together leading researchers and senior representatives of national funding agencies from Canada and Europe to identify shared priorities for research on Alzheimer’s Disease as well as other neurodegenerative diseases and dementias and to explore opportunities for collaboration between Canadian and European researchers. Participants heard presentations on national initiatives in France, Germany, Italy and the UK as well as two trans-national initiatives to combine European funding for Alzheimer's Research. Scientific discussions focused on biomarkers, animal models, innovative therapeutic strategies and prevention. Please find below: Workshop Program
