As the European Union rolls out the FP7 Program, it is critical to have the knowledge and information disseminated to Canadian researchers in order to take advantage of opportunities available to Canadians. FP7 Info Days held in March in Toronto, Ottawa and Montreal were very successful due to the participation from the Canadian research community. We will now hold similar sessions in Vancouver and Edmonton in May and plans for Atlantic Canada will be in the Fall. ERA-Can, in partnership with the Communications Research Centre (CRC) as the ICT Canadian National Contact Point, and the IST-EC 2 project will be organizing the following sessions: Thursday, May 10 Vancouver, B.C. University of British Columbia Campus Monday, May 14 Edmonton, Alberta Telus Centre located on the University of Alberta Campus The FP7 program which runs from 2007-2013, has a budget of $53.2 Billion Euros, and the ICT component is the largest with 9.1 Billion Euros. During the Info Sessions, the 7 Challenges of the ICT program will be presented and officials from the ICT Operations Unit of the European Commission will be available to answer your questions on any relevant issues, for both ICT and FP7 in general. The Ideal-ist project which is a research support network, will be outlined. Since Canada is an Associate Partner in the Ideal-ist project, the benefits and how Canadians can participate will be presented. As well, other thematic areas under FP7, ie: Life Sciences, Energy, Nanotechnology will be summarized. Federal and provincial funding agencies will also be on hand to provide up-to-date information on current programs. Opportunities for networking and meeting other researchers will also be a key component of these sessions. For complete information and registration details to any of these events, please log onto: www.crc.ca/ncp and then to the FP7 Info Days box and register to the location of your choice.
