European S & T Strategy

In 2000, the European Union created the European Research Area (ERA) to enable researchers across Europe to:

  • Move and interact seamlessly, benefit from world-class infrastructures and work within excellent networks of research institutions
  • Share, teach, study and use knowledge effectively for academic, social, business and policy purposes
  • Access European, national and regional research programs that support the best research throughout Europe and address major challenges together
  • Develop strong connections with partners around the world so that Europe benefits from the worldwide progress of knowledge, contributes to global development and takes a leading role in international initiatives on global issues.
